The Harmony Institute
Welcome to the outreach page of the Harmony Institute at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David. The idea that human beings can live in harmony with the cosmos, and that all things are interconnected, underpins many world-views of the east and the west, both ancient and modern. It is also an idea which informs much modern environmental thought and practice. If all things are connected then the well-being of one depends on the well-being of another. In practice, such ideas have implications in health studies, education, business, architecture, agriculture, conflict resolution and a range of other activities. The Harmony Institute’s Mission is to develop the critical examination and implantation of such ideas both through the University and with external partners.
Why Harmony?
The United Nations document, Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, issued in 2015, states that, 'We are determined to ensure that all human beings can enjoy prosperous and fulfilling lives and that economic, social and technological progress occurs in harmony with nature. If sustainability is dependent on harmony then our task in the University and in the community is to work out what harmony is.
